Tukez now I have the Rawr.Enhance module exporting the config data in a format suitable for EnhSim I was wondering if you would consider implementing a feature for EnhSimGui. The feature is quite simple - Read config from Clipboard.
This would basically read the clipboard contents and apply it to the currently loaded gui config. This would mean that both Rawr & ShockAndAwe exports would be a whole lot simpler - copy to clipboard in ShockAndAwe or Rawr and click a button in EnhSimGui to import config.
I'd happily modify the exports so that for instance there was a tagline identifier on the first line so you could test the validity of what was in the clipboard from the outset.
The idea is that you could have Rawr & EnhSim side by side - play around with gear in Rawr - click export in Rawr, click import in EnhSimGui - click Run Simulation. Very simple very quick and would allow much faster turn around trying out things in the sim.
Leeva,
It seems to me that the two tools indeed could be integrated with amazing benefit to the shaman community. But why continue to use the enhsimGUI? Rawr is beautiful at taking care of client side functions: interfacing with the armory, finding upgrades, easy data input - while enhsim is a powerhouse simulator. It seems that for optimal user experience, rawr could generate it's own config file and call the enhsim executable itself (much like enhsim does). Why even mess with a 2 step process?
I keep checking back up on the Rawr enhance module and, while it correctly imports and interfaces with the armory, the conversions still seem to be pre-Wrath. I think that I've read that this is being worked on, but might just be my opinion that we should wait 'till this is fixed/updated before integration should be looked into. I mean, i don't mind Rawr telling me that i have 7k attack power unbuffed, but I would prefer it to be correct first. ^_^
Sigh. You are so out of date!!! Try bothering to get the latest version (v2.2.0b6) before complaining. The latest version fully integrates with EnhSim 1.6.6 (bar buff exports). Within the next hour I'll post the latest version on MMO-Champion at http://www.mmo-champion.com/index.php?topic=38241.0 which will include full buff export support.
If you need to post here post CONSTRUCTIVE critisism of issues you have found. If you want to be negative go troll on the Blizzard forums.
@Jay
The reasons are quite simple. Rawr has no permissions (and NEVER should) to write files to the EnhSim directory on your machine. To get this to work "smoothly" Rawr would need to specify an export directory for the config files it would need to know where your EnhSim.exe resided it would need permissions to call to execute the file (which is a major security issue ie: one executable being able to call another executable on another part of your disk).
Implementing that strategy would mean needing to cope with different OS setups eg: Vista blocking access to another exe by default, problems with folder permissions having to specify command line startups etc etc etc. All exceptionally messy and WELL outside the scope of what Rawr is designed to do. It would also violate the agreement I have with the Rawr co-ordinator, as adding a large amount of non-Rawr specific file handling is just not the design goal of Rawr.
Instead we have Tukez able to maintain EnhSim and EnhSimGUI and have the two as a standalone setup. ie: your suggestion would FORCE users to use Rawr if they didn't want to manually edit the text file. It would also mean that Tukez would need to wait for me to update the Rawr model to cope with any changes to the EnhSim model. Keeping the two separate means that EnhSimGUI is a useful tool in of its own and as such EnhSim/EnhSimGUI stands on its own as a perfectly workable setup.
Rawr.Enhance simply enhances that by giving a 3 button click to get sim results from your Rawr character setup. This is far far simpler and more elegant solution to trying to replace EnhSimGUI.
Write very good! Back Up.
